Job description: I graduated from HSU Forestry & Wildland Resources in 2014, then became an RPF (#3063), and am now the contract logging and roads administrator at Green Diamond Resource Company. As part of a team, my job is to recruit contract capacity, schedule harvesting activities, negotiate and administer contracts, and ensure harvesting activities conform to state, federal, and company requirements and standards. My day-to-day activities consist of visiting active harvest units and communicating with the Licensed Timber Operators. I also coordinate with plan-writing foresters and biologists to ensure harvest operations are progressing safely, legally, and efficiently.

About Connor

What would you say to prospective students who are thinking about applying to this program?

I advise students to get involved in the forestry community and try out different seasonal jobs during your time in school. The forestry community in California is tight-knit and becoming a part of it during school will benefit you educationally and in your career. The easiest way to get involved is by joining one or more of the forestry/natural resource clubs on campus. Apply for different seasonal summer jobs and build a variety of work experiences before you graduate. Seasonal jobs are a great opportunity to apply your classroom lessons to on-the-job experiences, network with other professionals, build your resume and applicable work skills, and help you decide what type of forestry job you will pursue after graduating.
